Many Americans keep unused prescription drugs thinking those medications may come in handy for future illnesses—WRONG! Most medication is prescribed for specific ailments and self-medicating can be harmful—even useless. If you have unused or expired medications get rid of them. But please don’t flush them down your toilet or toss in the trash. Either mix them with moist coffee grounds or kitty litter mixed with a little water, then put in a sealed plastic bag or container to dispose. Or you can give them to your local pharmacy for disposal. And if you have left-over antibiotics—you shouldn’t if taken as directed. For more information go to tinyurl.com/FDAdiscarding.
